From October 28th Mr.Children has started their tour around the 5 major domed sports stadiums in Japan. They announced that on December 24th they will hold an extra concert at Tokyo Dome. Their additional performance will be broadcast live exclusively by [TV station] WOWOW. Tickets will go on sale on December 12th.

Yukie Nakama, the 30-year-old “queen of viewer ratings”’ has been chosen again to host the annual NHK “Kohaku Utagassen” program this year. Yet despite the actress’ popularity, her new TV drama is not faring too well. The TV Asahi series titled “Untouchable,” which began airing this month, is suffering unbelievably low ratings for the queen.

In spite of the advertisement, the rating for the first show was 11.6%, falling to 9.7% and 6.2% by the third episode in the Kanto area. According to a source working at TV Asahi’s production department, “The ratings are so poor that ordinarily we would consider canceling it altogether, midseason or not. But it’s just not possible, considering Nakama’s contribution to the success of ‘TRICK’ (which aired in 2000), and while plans are under way for a third movie version of this story. Under the circumstances, there’s no way we can do anything that would offend her. In fact, any talk about TV viewer ratings is practically a taboo now.”

12 members of J-pop group Exile were among those performing for the Emperor and Empress at a special concert held last night. The "Kokumin Saiten" was a day-long parade and festival held around the Imperial Palace in central Tokyo to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Emperor's ascension to the throne.

Last night's concert, featuring both traditional and popular music, was held in a garden in front of the palace and attended by about 30,000 people.

With the smoking rate declining among both men and women in Japan, tobacco companies are releasing new brands in the country to keep the smoking public happy.

A study released November 9 by Japan's Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare showed that the smoking rate among men has fallen to 36.8 percent - the lowest level since such surveys were started in 1986 - while the figure for women came to 9.1 percent, below the 10 percent threshold for the first time since 2001.

Overall, the smoking rate stood at 21.8 percent, down sharply from 27.7 percent just five years ago.

This year's 18th issue of Kodansha' Bessatsu Friend magazine has announced on Friday that a television drama series based on Tomoko Hayakawa's The Wallflower (Yamato Nadeshiko Shichihenge) manga has been green-lit for a January premiere. The story follows four teenaged "pretty boys" who are invited to stay at a posh mansion, free of charge—provided they can transform the owner's standoffish, weird niece into a proper young lady. More details about the drama version will be published in future issues of Bessatsu Friend.
